2009/2010 Public Service Campaigns

The Greater Frederick Advertising Federation recognized that making a difference in our community is paramount for the 2009/2010 year - also the club's 20th anniversary. Our goal is simple: To give back to the vibrant community that has supported us for the past 20 years. For the 2009/2010 year we have partnered with: Tails of Hope Sanctuary, Mission of Mercy, AnySoldier.com, Hope Alive, and Team Hope. We chose these nonprofits for their diversity, financial need, and for the positive impact they have on the community. For each nonprofit the GFAF has launched a campaign providing pro-bono assistance including: print, radio and social media advertising; graphic design, rebranding, and marketing servcies; in-kind and monetary donations from the community, all made possible through countless hours of volunteer hours.

It is because of the generosity of our public service sponsors and donations from the community and the GFAF members that these campaigns are such a success.

All questions, comments, or public service volunteer inquires, please contact the Public Service Director, Mary Kate McKenna, at MK@MKMcKenna.com.

NEW TROOPS CAMPAIGN ...

Blankets of Hope

Paint your messages of support!! The GFAF will be hosting a

"Blankets of Hope" painting party on

Wednesday, October 6th, 5:30 pm

Location to be announced.

Our goal is to make 10 Blankets of Hope to send to wounded servicemen and women overseas and in military facilities back home in the US, in time for the 2010 holidays. Once painted, the 18"x18" fabric squares will be quilted together with patriotic 18"x18" fabrics to make beautiful blankets and will be sure to comfort those who have served our country so bravely.

Artistic experience NOT required. Only your support. Paint a picture, a message, anything to show you care....and that you haven't forgotten their sacrifices.

More information will be available soon. In the meantime, if you are interested in any of the following, PLEASE contact Lisa Gorham of Jean Peterson Design at lisa@jeanpetersondesign.com.

- Does this campaign resonate and you would like to give a monetary donation? We are looking for sponsorships of ANY denomination to help cover the costs of Blankets of Hope materials.

- Can't make the painting party on the 6th, but want to contribute? We can get you the supplies you need and you can paint your square in time for the final deadline of October 13th.

- Are you a quilter and not a painter and would like to contribute?

TROOPS CARE PACKAGES - ANYSOLDIER.COM

Year-long Campaign

http://www.anysoldier.com/

Our successful troops care package campaign continues throughout the 2010 year, sending our brave servicemen and women care packages filled with all their most-wished-for items. Unfortunately freedom is not free, and our troops will be overseas for a while. Thanks to the generosity of our members and the community, 150 care packages later, we have been able to truly show our support for their hard work and sacrifice. Let's keep this momentum going, please donate to the troops care packages. A complete troops wish list can be downloaded here. We are also very much in need of monetary donations to help offset the postage fees. Please contact Lisa Gorham, Troops Committee team leader at lisa@jeanpetersondesign.com if you are interested in supporting this campaign with a monetary donations.

Sergeant Brian Horn from LaPlata, Maryland, an Army Infantry Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade was in the Kirkuk area of Iraq when he started the idea of Any Soldier to help care for his soldiers. He agreed to distribute packages that came to him with "Attn: Any Soldier" in his address to soldiers who didn't get mail. Brian completed a tour in Afghanistan and is now home. AnySoldier.com continues larger than ever with supporters world-wide! Any Soldier Inc. started in August 2003 as a simple family effort to help the soldiers in one Army unit; thus, our name. Due to overwhelming requests, on 1 January 2004 the Any Soldier effort was expanded to include any member of the Armed Forces in harm's way.

Want to donate to the Troops Care Packages? Here is a list of their
Most Wished-for Items as well as drop off information.

Thank you for your support and generosity.

Campaign Report
We have raised thousands of dollars in donation since June 2009, sending over 150 care packages overseas to date. This campaign will continue throughout 2010. And as an added bonus we have forged friendships with some of our recipients, including SGT Waine Haley, US Army; LCPL Alex Leybovich, US Marine CORP; MSGT David Johnson, US Army; and SFC Bruce Lyon, US Army.
